“Love, he picked me up by my collar like I weighed nothing. He broke Lilliandil’s shoulder. Dearest, he’s not himself anymore…”

“No.” -shakes head in anger- “I must speak with him, he cannot continue to do these things. I know that he feels guilt. He has to. He always does.”

[shakes her head]

“I don’t think he does anymore. You could try…but I don’t think so…I brought up Lilli and he didn’t even twitch…”

-inhales sharply-

“I truly must speak with him. What he has done is unforgivable, but you must understand. Somedays, he knows not what he does, at least not while he commits the act. I knew I shouldn’t have gone away for work. I could have protected you. Both of you. I should have been here!”

lara-lynette:

Lara smiled shyly. “You’re speaking figuratively or truthfully?” She had hoped one day he’d propose to her, she just didn’t know when. On his time of course. “The whole forever thing…”

He paused, had he really just said that aloud? Stupid. Idiotic. Brainless. Pitten could have banged his head upon any surface right now. He was afraid of scaring her off, even though he had told her his true feelings. Pitten was still very insecure and afraid that she’d leave him for someone better. He sighed and nodded, eyes closed. “I meant it literally. If you’ll have me for forever, that is.”

She smiled. “If you insist, but I insist on reminding you how much I love you for a while.”

“I do.” He smiled at her. “I do not think there are enough ways I can show you how much I love you. I can’t possible do one for every day of forever.”

lara-lynette:

She laughed. “That is what I meant, of course.” Lara listened to him as he talked, taking in everything. “That sounds perfect. You really put in a lot of thought for this.”

“Of course I did.” His answer was automatic and very truthful. He often put too much thought into his gestures and actions towards Lara.

lara-lynette:

She leaned her forehead against his in a matching fashion. “But I do, and I will. You of all people should know that.” Lara couldn’t imagine herself with anyone else.

“I do and I am telling you that I am definitely not worthy, but I am willing to work until I am.” This was where he needed to be. Who he needed to be with.

“And I will forever argue with you on that matter.” She laughed gently. Taking her seat again, they ate in silence for a few moments before Lara spoke again. “What did you have planned?”

He shook his head in good humor. “This is one argument you will not win.” They stopped talking and ate, only the sound of forks and knives hitting the plates could be heard. As he ate, he thought about what a lovely trip this was sure to be. “To visit your parents’ graves, of course.” His answer was simple. “Do you mean how I plan on getting us there? First, we must walk to a boat I have secured for us. Then, when we get to our childhood area, there will be two horses waiting for us. There is a home that I rented for this trip.”

She laughed breathily as he kissed her again. “Mmm. I could say the same thing about you.” Her eyes fluttered closed as her hands looped gently around his neck.

He leaned his forehead on hers. “Ah, you shouldn’t.” It felt so right to be with Lara, like this. Pitten could not believe how much time he had wasted foolishly thinking he was ‘in love’ with Lilliandil.

“Has anyone seen Lilliandil?…”

“What of Rafael? I’ve not seen either of them in some time. I think I’ll write a letter to their home or visit them.”

“Rafael’s not…right…at the moment.”

“What do you mean?”

[blinks]

“He’s…lost his mind…”

-eyes widen-

“Surely not.” -shakes head- “No. It can’t be. I’ll speak to him.”

“Hm.” She laughed. “I’m not perfect, you perfect man.” She tucked a strand of dark hair behind her ear shyly. “We are not going about literacy. We are both readers, literate people. I read enough to you anyway.” She got up. “I brought something. A uhm-thank you gift for this.” Taking out a wood container, she pulled out a bread roll. “It’s a uhm..pie? My mother used to make these. Travel sized pie.”

“Tsk.” He shook his head, a smile playing on his lips. “Nor am I perfect. And, here am I thinking you can never lie.” She was right, he did ask her to read to him oft, not because he could not himself, but because he believed her voice to be ideal for such a task. He watched as she got him a gift. Something she had not needed to do. He grinned and accepted the travel sized pie. “Thank you, Lara. I’ll eat it later.” He had already packed all the food and drink that they would need until they got to their destination, he decided that they should eat it while they were on the boat. “For now, we shall sit and eat.”
